How entries are checked

  • A pair is shown only when at least two different source families confirm exactly this pair, e.g. MeSH and Wikipedia, ICD-10 and MeSH, or the GOZ and Wikipedia. At least one source has to be dental or medical.
  • Terms where sources disagree or only one source exists are checked by Dr. Jan Hajtó before they appear. Approved terms are marked as "reviewed by our editor" on their page.
  • Outdated or stigmatising terms are not shown. English is given in US spelling, with the British form next to it where it differs.

Frequently asked questions

Which terms are in the dictionary?

206 German–English pairs from anatomy, tooth surfaces, pathology, endodontics, periodontology, prosthodontics, surgery, orthodontics, radiology, materials and practice billing. Each is confirmed by at least two independent source families or reviewed by our dental editor.

Why are some common terms missing?

Terms where the sources disagree, or where only one source confirms the pair, are listed only after review by our dental editor. They are added step by step.

Does the search work without umlauts?

Yes. "Zahnaerzte", "Zahnarzte" and "Zahnärzte" find the same entries; the search covers German and English headwords, US and UK spellings, synonyms and abbreviations.

Where do the translations come from?

From MeSH 2026 (NLM) and German MeSH (ZB MED, CC BY 4.0), Wikipedia language links via Wikidata, ICD-10, the GOZ and official bilingual pages of German health bodies; IATE and Wiktionary are used for verification only.

A translation aid for technical terms; it does not replace a professional check in the individual case.
