What the GOZ is
The Gebührenordnung für Zahnärzte (GOZ) is a German federal regulation (Verordnung) of 22 October 1987, last amended by the regulation of 5 December 2011 (BGBl. I p. 2661). It governs dentists' fees unless a federal law provides otherwise (§ 1 (1) GOZ). This tool covers the GOZ only.
Its fee schedule (Anlage 1) lists 215 codes (Gebührennummern) in 11 sections, from A (general services) to L (surcharges for outpatient surgery). Each code has an official German description and a number of points (Punktzahl).
How a GOZ fee is calculated
Fee = points × point value × multiplier. The point value is 5.62421 euro cents (§ 5 (1) GOZ). The points times the point value give the single rate; the fee lies between 1.0 and 3.5 times that rate. Fractions of a cent below 0.5 are rounded down, 0.5 and above up, once, after multiplying by the factor.
The 2.3 rate represents a service of average difficulty and time. A higher factor is only allowed for particular difficulty, time or circumstances (§ 5 (2) GOZ) and must be justified in writing on the invoice for each service (§ 10 (3) GOZ). A fee above 3.5 times the rate requires a written fee agreement made before treatment (§ 2 GOZ).
Example: code 2197 (adhesive cementation) has 130 points: €7.31 at 1.0, €16.82 at 2.3 and €25.59 at 3.5. Material and laboratory costs are billed in addition.
Using the code search
Type a code (for example 8000) or a German keyword (for example Krone, Füllung, Implantat) below. Each code links to its German page with the full official text, the fee at 1.0, 1.8, 2.3 and 3.5 and a calculator for any multiplier. This is a calculation aid based on the official text, not billing advice.
