Restorative material and cementation guide

Choose the restoration. The guide shows the materials whose manufacturer's instructions for use list it as an indication, with the minimum thickness, the pretreatment of the restoration and the possible cementation methods. Every value names its source.

Only materials whose manufacturer's instructions for use were verified are listed.

Exact to 0.1 mm, e.g. 1.2. The value is compared with each manufacturer minimum: sufficient when the space is at least as large.

Contraindications and limitations of use (for example on bruxism or bridge spans) are not reproduced here; they are in the respective instructions for use.

G-ænial Universal Injectable · GC Europe

Excerpt from the indications in the instructions for use. For indirect work with GRADIA this dataset contains no minimum thickness, pretreatment or cementation.

How the guide works

Choose a restoration type, from a thin veneer to a three-unit bridge in the molar region. The guide then lists every material in the dataset whose manufacturer's instructions for use (IFU) name this restoration as an indication. Materials whose IFU does not list it appear in a separate line, so you can see why they are missing.

If you enter the space available in millimetres, each manufacturer minimum is marked sufficient or not sufficient. The comparison is exact to 0.1 mm: a space equal to the minimum is sufficient, 0.1 mm less is not. The guide compares numbers only; it does not judge the preparation.

What is shown for each material

Four facts from the IFU: the indications, the minimum thickness for the chosen restoration (with connector cross-sections for bridges), the pretreatment of the restoration surface (etching time and acid concentration, air abrasion, primer) and the cementation methods the manufacturer allows. Every value carries the product, the revision or date of the IFU and the page, with a link to the manufacturer's PDF.

The guide does not give recommendations of its own, does not choose between materials and does not reproduce contraindications or limitations of use. These are in the IFU, which remains authoritative.

Which materials are included

IPS e.max Press and IPS e.max CAD (lithium disilicate), IPS Empress CAD (leucite-reinforced glass-ceramic), IPS e.max ZirCAD Prime and MT (zirconia), CERASMART 270 and BRILLIANT Crios (CAD/CAM blocks). G-ænial Universal Injectable appears as a direct composite with an excerpt of its indications. Only materials whose manufacturer's instructions for use were verified are listed; materials whose IFU we could not check are left out rather than shown with uncertain values.

Where the values come from

Each IFU was downloaded from the manufacturer and read on the stated page. Short verbatim quotes from each document are checked automatically against the PDF; values that the IFU shows only in drawings were read on the rendered page. Where two IFUs of the same manufacturer differ, as for the minimum wall thickness of IPS e.max ZirCAD posterior crowns and three-unit bridges, both values are shown with their sources. Manufacturers revise their instructions; the versions checked are listed at the end of the page.

Frequently asked questions

Is the guide a treatment recommendation?

No. It shows what the manufacturers' instructions for use state about indication, minimum thickness, pretreatment and cementation. The choice of material and the clinical procedure remain the dentist's decision, and the current instructions for use are authoritative.

Why is a material missing for my restoration?

Because its instructions for use do not list this restoration among the indications. The guide names these materials in a separate line below the results.

Why are there two minimum values for IPS e.max ZirCAD posterior crowns and three-unit bridges?

Ivoclar's instructions for use of IPS e.max ZirCAD labside (Prime, MT) and of IPS e.max ZirCAD Prime chairside give different minimum wall thicknesses for the posterior crown and for three-unit bridges, and the chairside document also gives its own connector cross-section for bridges. The guide shows both values with their sources and does not choose one.

How is the available space compared?

Exact to 0.1 mm against each manufacturer minimum: equal to the minimum or more is sufficient, less is not sufficient. Connector cross-sections in mm² are shown but not compared.

Why are some materials not included at all?

Only materials whose manufacturer's instructions for use were verified are listed. Materials whose instructions we could not check are left out.

How up to date are the values?

The guide names the revision or date of every instruction for use it uses. Manufacturers revise their documents, so always check the current version before use.
