What the vocabulary trainer is for
If you apply for the German Approbation with a foreign degree, you must show the German needed to practise. In the Länder's practice this is usually a Fachsprachprüfung (specialist language exam) oriented at C1 and usually run by the Landeszahnärztekammer (state dental chamber). What your federal state asks for, and who runs the exam there, is shown in the dental licence guide.
This trainer helps with the vocabulary. It holds 150 German–English term pairs a dentist needs when talking to patients and colleagues: anatomy, findings, common diagnoses, treatments, anaesthesia, hygiene and basic billing terms. Every pair is a confirmed entry of our German–English dental dictionary: at least two independent source families attest it, at least one of them dental or medical. We added no new terms; rare syndromes, research terms and lab materials are deliberately left out.
How to learn: choose flashcards or the quiz, and the direction German → English or English → German. On a flashcard, reveal the answer and mark the term as known or to repeat; with "Only terms not yet known" you practise the open ones. In the quiz you pick one of four answers; the wrong options come from the same category where possible, and no synonym of the right answer is ever offered as wrong. Use the category filter to work through one field at a time. The English main form is the US spelling; the UK spelling is shown next to it.
The cards show only the confirmed term pairs with UK spelling and confirmed synonyms. We do not show explanations or usage notes here, because they are still being reviewed. The trainer is no substitute for a language course or exam preparation; it is a supplement for learning the terms. Your progress stays in your browser and is never sent to us.
