Requirement

125 CE points every 5 years, proven to the KZV

Period / cycle

Five-year period from the start of SHI practice (date of establishment or approved start of employment). Example given by KZV Land Brandenburg: 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2024. The period is interrupted while the licence is suspended.

Details

BZÄK/DGZMK point scale (rule for how providers assign points): 1 point per CE hour (45 minutes), at most 8 points per day; extra points e.g. for a written learning test. The points on the certificate prevail.

Self-study of literature: 10 points per year, at most 50 points per five-year period, only for the current year (not in advance).

Part-time dentists also need 125 points in 5 years. Surplus points do not carry over to the next period.

The proof can be replaced by a certificate of the regional dental chamber for the five-year period; the KZV asks for the proof at least three months before the end.

Independently, the professional code obliges every dentist to keep up CE (example Bavaria, § 5 of the code).

If the requirement is not met

Fees are cut by 10% for the first four quarters after the five-year period, then by 25%; the cut ends after the quarter in which full proof is submitted. Missing CE can be made up within two years (it does not count for the next period); after that the KZV is to apply for withdrawal of the licence.

Radiation protection update (Germany): due dates

Five-year deadline for updating the radiation protection expertise (dentists) and knowledge (staff) in German practices under § 48 StrlSchV, per person with countdown.
